Sohum Shah Reflects on Eight Years of Tumbbad as Tumbbad 2 is Filmed

As Tumbbad completes eight years of its theatrical release, actor-producer Sohum Shah has reflected on the making of the cult horror film, sharing insights into his dedication, emotional investment, and the physical transformation required to play Vinayak Rao.

Released in 2018, the film is known for its atmospheric storytelling, haunting visuals, and exploration of greed, ambition, and human desire. Sohum devoted six years of his life to the project, staying connected to the psychology of his character while working on other films such as Talvar and Simran.

The actor also worked extensively on his diction, shifting from his natural Haryanvi-influenced accent to the Marathi-influenced tone required for the film. Describing the project, Sohum stated, “It is a dream role for me, and I will always be as greedy as Hastar for more roles like this.”

Sohum is currently filming Tumbbad 2, which features Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Alia Bhatt in important roles.
