Nana was cremated with full state honours at his Nanchi Wadi farmhouse in Donje village on the outskirts of Pune later that night, with the family performing the last rites around 11:30 PM. The late-night timing caused many to wonder why the family chose to hold the ceremony then.

Malhar Patekar explained that the family had expected the mortal remains to reach the village earlier. However, a delay in transportation caused the final journey to take longer than anticipated.
