Sonu Nigam Apologises to Kannadigas Ahead of Bengaluru Concert

Singer Sonu Nigam has issued a video apology to Kannadigas regarding remarks linked to the Pahalgam terror attack ahead of his October 24 Bengaluru concert, following opposition from the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike.

Singer Sonu Nigam has apologised to Kannadigas over controversial remarks linked to the Pahalgam terror attack ahead of his scheduled Bengaluru concert on October 24. The video message was shared after the pro-Kannada organisation Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) demanded that the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner deny permission for the concert.

In the video, Sonu stated that he is willing to apologise repeatedly to preserve his relationship with the people of Karnataka. “When you love someone and want the relationship to last, you don't mind saying sorry a thousand times,” he said in Kannada.

He added, “So, my dear family, if anything I've said inadvertently has hurt you, I'm so sorry. You know I'm not the kind of person who would ever hurt anyone, especially my family from Karnataka. You have given me so much love and respect over the last 30 years, and I don't want any small misunderstanding to taint that relationship or cause any bitterness.”

Background of the Controversy

The controversy stems from an April 2025 performance at East Point College of Engineering and Technology in Bengaluru, where an audience member repeatedly demanded a song in Kannada. Sonu responded by highlighting his affection for Karnataka while objecting to the aggressive manner of the request.

The issue gained renewed attention when his comments were linked to the April 22, 2025 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. The remarks drew criticism from sections of the Kannada-speaking community and led to KRV's demands to stop his upcoming concert.

With his video message, Sonu aims to resolve the matter and reaffirm his long-standing ties with Karnataka.
