Suno Na Yaar: Exploring Relationship Complexities in Theatre
An overview of the play Suno Na Yaar, written by Chirag Khandelwal, directed by Vibha Chhibber, and produced by FunToosh Players.
The play Suno Na Yaar explores the intricacies of everyday relationships, looking at what people say, what they hide, and what remains unsaid. It conveys serious emotions with a light touch, using presence rather than heavy dialogues to express unspoken pain and relationship complexities found in every home.
Writer
Chirag Khandelwal began his theatre journey in Jaipur and earned a Master's in Theatre Arts (Design and Direction) from the University of Hyderabad. He has collaborated with directors such as Sabir Khan, Karen Libman, Dr. Anuradha Kapur, Rajiv Velicheti, and Mohit Takalkar. His written works include four full-length plays: Ek Khoon Sau Baatein, Ek Ansuni Baat, Ek Adhpaka sa Natak (winner of the Sanhita Manch 2023 Hindi Category), and Wo Chalta Hai for the play Hunkaro (META Winner for Best Script 2023).
Director
Vibha Chhibber is an alumna of the National School of Drama. She has worked with directors including Dr. Anuradha Kapur, Robin Das, Kirti Jain, Ranjit Kapoor, Prasanna, B.V. Karanth, Barry John, and Fritz Bennewitz. As a founding member of the NSD Theatre in Education Co. (TIE), she contributed for 18 years and served as its director from 2003 to 2005. She is involved in stage and media acting, direction, and conducting theatre workshops.
Director's Note
Director Vibha Chhibber notes an attraction to stories exploring unusual, layered relationships and family dynamics rather than stereotypes. Comparing the discovery of untold aspects of Bhagat Singh's life to the unexplored emotions within relationships, Chhibber discussed the idea with writer Chirag Khandelwal, resulting in a play focused on relationship nuances.
Group
Established in Mumbai in 2005, FunToosh Players performs a wide variety of plays across India, ranging from Shakespeare and Chekhov to Premchand and Mohan Rakesh. The team consists of NSD graduates and theatre professionals producing works for both children and adults.
