The Morning Show Explores Suppressed Desires and Small-Town Silence in Play by Avneesh Mishra
Avneesh Mishra's play The Morning Show, presented by the Rangshila Theatre Group, examines suppressed desires and unspoken compromises in a small-town setting.
About The Morning Show
The Morning Show is a play set in a small town where sexuality, bodily changes, and desire are often silenced. The characters Ashok and Maya represent two distinct worlds: Ashok's world is limited by fear and false honour, while Maya's world is open, questioning, and ready to embrace truth. The story explores suppressed desires, misguided knowledge, and quiet violence in small towns, depicting children caught between the silence of elders and societal hypocrisy while searching for their own path. The production is not a straightforward crime tale.

Director's Note
According to Avneesh Mishra, The Morning Show reflects silences and unspoken compromises, noting that the roots of crime lie in the mindset nurtured in the name of society and tradition. Mishra stated that the involvement of the actors and entire team through acting, writing, or direction was most important, adding that the play's purpose is achieved if it unsettles the audience, as change often begins with discomfort.
