THE WISE CREATURE Explores Humanity's Evolution and Exploitation of Earth

The experimental play THE WISE CREATURE follows a conversation between a 'wise man' and a 'vulture' that questions human 'wiseness.' The wise man defends his species' exploitation of the world and claims superiority through endurance and creations like media and medical care, while the vulture highlights the shortcomings and potential disasters these creations bring to mankind and the earth.

Writer and Director: Jyoti Narayan Nath is an alumnus of the National School of Drama, New Delhi, a theatre trainer, and a visiting faculty member associated with the NSD Sikkim Centre. He has received a junior fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India.

Co-Writer: Biplab Tanti is a young theatre practitioner, a scholar of performing arts pursuing a Master’s in Theater Acting at Gauhati University, and a CCRT Senior Artist Scholarship holder in Mime.

Director’s Note: Inspired by the texts of Yuval Noah Harari, the play questions whether humans are truly wise from the perspective of other species after evolving into the ultimate human system.
