Vikrant Massey Explains Choice of Musafir Cafe for Production Debut
National Award-winning actor Vikrant Massey discusses why he chose the simple, relatable story of Musafir Cafe for his production house, Homemade Stories, instead of starting with a big-budget film.
National Award-winning actor Vikrant Massey recently ventured into production with Musafir Cafe, the first project from his production house, Homemade Stories. The show has received appreciation from audiences across the country for its simple yet relatable storytelling.
During a conversation at the ET Summit, Vikrant explained why he opted for a simple story rather than a big-budget film for his production debut. He stated that he has a problem with categorizing projects as big films or small films, noting that what truly matters in storytelling is whether a film is good or bad.
Vikrant shared that his experience with 12th Fail strengthened his belief in this philosophy. He noted that it was technically the smallest film of that year regarding production budget and screen count, yet it ran for eight months in the age of multiplexes.
Speaking about the vision behind Homemade Stories, Vikrant explained that the name reflects his desire to tell relatable, impactful stories that stay with viewers. While he plans to make a large-scale theatrical film at some point, the main idea is to tell stories that resonate with people.
In addition to the show, Vikrant has plans to open two physical replica cafés inspired by Musafir Cafe in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
On the work front, Vikrant will next appear in White, portraying spiritual leader and humanitarian Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in a film that explores peacebuilding and efforts to resolve Colombia’s civil conflict.
