Vishal Rana calls Tu Hai Meri Kiran “our answer to Obsession” and discusses casting real-life couple Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal
Producer Vishal Rana discusses his upcoming film Tu Hai Meri Kiran, starring real-life couple Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal, the choice of its title, and its release against multiple films on October 23.
Producer Vishal Rana opens up about his upcoming film Tu Hai Meri Kiran, set for release on October 23, detailing the casting of real-life couple Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal in a dark and twisted dynamic.
According to Rana, the script came to him with a storyline revolving around an obsessive lover and multiple twists. After Sonakshi Sinha was approached and liked the story, the team sought an actor in the 25-30 age group who could match her presence and portray a powerful, creepy stalker. Following several auditions, Zaheer Iqbal tested for the part and surprised the producer and director Karan Rawal with his intensity, leading to the unexpected casting of the couple pitted against each other.
Discussing the film's title, Rana noted that while looking for names suited for a story about an obsessive person, Zaheer suggested Tu Hai Meri Kiran based on a friend's recommendation. To their surprise, the title was unregistered and secured through IMPPA (Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association). However, Rana clarified that the film has no connection or similarities to the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Darr (1993), and the team opted not to acquire the rights to the classic song to avoid direct comparisons.
Rana also views the timing of the film as ideal following the success of Obsession (2026), calling Tu Hai Meri Kiran "our answer to Obsession." Despite sharing the October 23 release date with several other films, Rana remains confident in the content and is targeting a release across 500 screens with approximately 1,500 shows.
