Writer Aamil Keeyan Khan Explains Gaitonde's Humorous Turn in Drishyam The Conclusion
Writer Aamil Keeyan Khan discusses why the character Gaitonde became funnier and more comical in Drishyam The Conclusion, providing much-needed comic relief.
Drishyam The Conclusion features a more comical and humorous turn for the character Gaitonde, played by Kamlesh Sawant. Dialogue, screenplay writer, and lyricist Aamil Keeyan Khan opened up about the evolution of the character, explaining that he never viewed Gaitonde as a villain.
According to Khan, Gaitonde is an unlucky man and a good detective who was actually right about Vijay Salgaonkar. Khan stated, “If you see, he’s a cop who’s actually right about Vijay Salgaonkar. He’s trying to do his job correctly. So, I empathize with Gaitonde’s predicament.”
Khan also explained that humorous lines and breathers were necessary to balance the intense investigative first half of the film. Whenever Gaitonde appeared in a scene, those funny lines came naturally.
Khan additionally wrote special marketing videos featuring Gaitonde addressing audiences directly in cinemas to switch off phones and grab snacks during the interval. When asked about a potential Gaitonde spin-off, Khan smiled and kept his lips sealed.
