Mirzapur The Movie Review: A Paisa-Vasool Big-Screen Entertainer

Mirzapur The Movie Review

MIRZAPUR THE MOVIE is the story of power and ambition. Akhandanand Tripathi aka Kaleen Bhaiyya (Pankaj Tripathi) is the undisputed king of Mirzapur, who has more faith in Govind Pandit aka Guddu (Ali Fazal) and Vinay Pandit aka Bablu (Jitendra Kumar) than his own son, Phoolchand Tripathi aka Munna (Divyenndu). When J P Yadav (Pramod Pathak) pressures Kaleen Bhaiyya to arrange funds for an election campaign, Bablu gets a tip about Babban Yadav (Ravi Kishan), a Jaisalmer-based businessman looking to sell seven truckloads of drugs, though Babban has an ulterior motive to eliminate Kaleen Bhaiyya.

Puneet Krishna's story is impressive and organically fits into the Mirzapur universe, set between Episodes 6 and 7 of the first season. Gurmmeet Singh directs the mass-appealing feature, which runs for more than three hours and compensates for fewer action sequences with powerful dramatic face-offs and a rousing finale.

Pankaj Tripathi delivers a supreme performance as the King of Mirzapur. Ali Fazal gives his massiest performance to date, while Divyenndu shines in both massy and emotional scenes. Jitendra Kumar effortlessly slips into his character, and Ravi Kishan is supported by a strong cast including Pramod Pathak, Sheeba Chaddha, Rasika Dugal, Sonal Chauhan, Abhishek Banerjee, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Shaji Choudhary, Anangsha Biswas, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Gaur, Sushant Singh, Rajesh Tailang, Mohitt Maalik, and Satendra Soni.

Technically, the film features top-notch cinematography by Sanjay Kapoor, gory action by Amin Khatib, and an enhanced background score by John Stewart Eduri.
