Udta Teer Movie Review
UDTA TEER is an amusing spy comedy directed by Akash A Kaushik, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan. The film follows Vikrant Thapar (Ayushmann Khurrana), a top Counter Terrorism Squad agent whose marriage to Yamini (Sara Ali Khan) is struggling. Unbeknownst to his team, Vikrant is actually a Pakistani spy named Bilal Ahmed, reporting to Pakistani Lt General A Q Niyazi (Ram Kapoor).
Niyazi tasks Bilal with gathering information on Indian spies in Pakistan to impress General Mohammed Ali Mir (Gulshan Grover). However, Vikrant meets with an accident during the assignment and loses his memory. Believing he is a true Indian patriot, he turns against cross-border terrorism, jeopardizing the Pakistani establishment's operations.
The story and screenplay, credited to Akash A Kaushik, Gautam Govind Sharma, Dia Walia, and Madhur Sharma, shine through humorous scenes and dialogues, particularly featuring M D Burman (Rahul Bose) and Azhar Maqsood (late Mukul Dev). The film also draws humor from geopolitical jokes and classic Hindi songs like 'Julie I Love You'. However, the narrative loses steam in the third act, becoming complex with numerous twists and double-crosses after taking a serious turn post-interval.
In terms of performances, Ayushmann Khurrana delivers a fine performance as a spy dealing with memory loss, while Sara Ali Khan is let down by the writing. Rahul Bose and the late Mukul Dev deliver standout, funny performances. The supporting cast includes Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Suhail Nayyar, Smita Tambe, Sandeep Anand, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Brijendra Kala, and Kavya Kumar.
Music is composed by Sachin-Jigar, featuring a catchy title track alongside other numbers like 'Choozay', 'Bhootni Ka', 'Chann', and 'Jai Hind'. Ketan Sodha provides the background score, complemented by cinematography from Harshvir Oberai, action choreography by Sea Young Oh, Mohammed Aejaz Gulab Shaikh, and Mohd Amin Khatib, costumes by Abhilasha Sharma, production design by Mayur Sharma, and editing by Shivkumar V Panicker and Prerna Saigal.
