VIBE Movie Review: Kunal Kemmu's Direction and Humour Lead the Way
Read the review for VIBE, starring Kunal Kemmu, Preity G Zinta, and Sparsh Srivastava, directed by Kunal Kemmu.
VIBE Movie Review
VIBE tells the story of two friends, software developer Bhagirath aka Bugs (Sparsh Srivastava) and his best friend Hardik Sharma (Kunal Kemmu), who have just been released from drug rehab. After Bugs requests his boss to hire Hardik, he joins the company's marketing department and meets Kareena (Vanshika Dhir). All hell breaks loose when a fiery national security agent, Madam H (Preity G Zinta), and her team abduct the duo and compel them to work on a top-secret mission.
The film is directed and written by Kunal Kemmu. The story is clichéd but works well within the zone of the film, featuring a simplistic screenplay peppered with hilarious dialogues and one-liners that earn an 'A' rating. However, the writing falters in the second half when the film gets serious and humour takes a backseat, leaving certain intriguing questions unresolved.
Performances and Technical Aspects
Kunal Kemmu delivers a strong performance alongside his work as a writer and director. Preity G Zinta provides a first-rate performance with a memorable action scene, while Sparsh Srivastava shines and shows his acting and humour prowess. Vanshika Dhir delivers a satisfactory performance in a crucial role. The cast also features Dinesh Lal Yadav aka Nirahua, Yashpal Sharma, Salem Kali, Mark Bennington, Rajesh Krishnan, Uorfi Javed, and Aaditya Kulshreshth.
Amit Trivedi's music includes tracks like 'Raaton Mein Aana', 'Aisi Meri Vibe', 'Rafta Rafta', and 'Sipahi Ek'. John Stewart Eduri provides the background score, Kaushal Shah handles cinematography, Prachi Deshpande is production designer, Rick Roy provides costumes, Parvez Shaikh and Brahm Chab handle action and stunts, and Anand Subaya and Sanjay Shrirang Ingle serve as editors.
Ultimately, VIBE works due to Kunal Kemmu's command over humour, one-liners, and performances, appealing particularly to urban audiences and the youth.
