Radhika Bansal's Meethe Mein Kya Hai is a family entertainer starring Ritwik Bhowmik, Rohini Hattangady, Ayesha Raza, and Shivika Rishi, arriving on Netflix with relatable moments and fine performances.
Meethe Mein Kya Hai is a sweet, heartwarming family entertainer directed by Radhika Bansal. The star cast includes Ritwik Bhowmik, Rohini Hattangady, Ayesha Raza, and Shivika Rishi.
The film tells the story of a family reunion. Jai Agarwal (Ritwik Bhowmik) is an architect whose wife Tara (Kanikka Kapur) passed away two years ago in a car accident. Having distanced himself from his family, Jai initially declines to attend a Diwali get-together at his nani's (Rohini Hattangady) residence in Lucknow. However, his sister Sana (Dalai) reveals she has secretly married and asks him to be present when she introduces her husband Karam (Vikram Bakshi) to the family. Jai attends and meets his mother Amrita (Ayesha Raza), father Ajay (Gaurav Sharma), mami Preeti (Tarana Raja), mama Rishab (Abhay Kaul), and their son Sid (Ayuushman Ghai). He also forms an unlikely friendship with his nani's 13-year-old neighbour, Meera (Shivika Rishi). When Sana and Karam arrive a day later, chaos ensues.
Radhika Bansal's story is relatable and sweet, paired with a breezy screenplay peppered with heartwarming and emotional moments, though the writing is weak in places. Bansal's direction is strong for a first-timer, delivering genuine laughs, particularly in the initial portions when Karam is introduced. Running at 119 minutes, the film remains engaging, though certain developments and conflicts feel forced or out of place.
Ritwik Bhowmik delivers a fine performance as a grieving man attending a family reunion. Rohini Hattangady is adorable in her role, while Shivika Rishi serves as the surprise package of the film. Ayesha Raza plays her part with an over-the-top approach as required. Gaurav Sharma, Tarana Raja, Abhay Kaul, Dalai, and Vikram Bakshi—particularly in a scene where he gets high—leave strong impressions. Ayuushman Ghai has limited scope, and Kanikka Kapur delivers a decent appearance.
Amit Trivedi provides situational music featuring tracks like 'Chad De Chad De', 'Karam Farma De', 'Ichak Dana Bichak Dana', and 'Jagmaga', while his background score is noted as much better. The film also features satisfactory cinematography by Piyush Puty, authentic production design by Natasha Gauba, realistic yet glamorous costumes by Theia Tekchandaney and Ayushi Jain, and functional editing by Neha Mehra.
Arriving on Netflix with negligible hype, Meethe Mein Kya Hai works due to its relatable moments, genuine humour, and fine performances, holding the potential to find its audience through word of mouth.
